There was magic in the air at Gudy Gaskill Elementary on December 9th, and not just because Santa was in the building. It was because deaf and hard-of-hearing students from around the metro area and their families were able to gather together to celebrate the holidays in an environment designed for them. Students excitedly shared their wishes for the holiday with a signing Santa, participated in crafts, decorated cookies, and watched a movie. Several signing volunteers were on hand to facilitate the event.
One parent, with tears in his eyes, said that he was so grateful that his kids were able to experience the joys of the season in this way. Thanks to the LPS Deaf and Hard of Hearing staff for making this special event happen.
