LPS Foundation Grant Helps Students Build Castles and Confidence

Creating with clay feels like playing with magic for students at Little Raven Elementary School. Students like Ava, Miles, and James love that clay is squishy and soft, like mud, but can be made into just about anything—a monster, a bowl, or even a castle. They also like that if you don’t like your design, you can smush it up and start over.

“Many of the students at Little Raven have never worked in this medium, so it is very special to them,” says art teacher Tamara Lacy. Transforming a lump of clay into beautiful pottery builds confidence and allows students to use their brains differently than in a traditional classroom. Ms. Lacy says the kids constantly ask, “When will we do clay again?”

The clay and other art supplies were purchased with funds from an LPS Foundation educator grant. Your generosity makes these enhanced educational opportunities possible.
