We’ve heard about classroom animals before, but never 161 of them! Teacher Grant recipient, Heritage High School teacher Kelli Glorso-McCabe, gave her students the opportunity to raise rainbow trout from eggs to fingerling fish. From this experience, they learned valuable lessons about riparian habitats, water chemistry and testing, caring for fish, disease testing and obtaining permits.
Now that they have 161 trout in the classroom, students are working toward meeting Colorado Parks & Wildlife permit requirements so they can hold a community trout release party at the Carson Nature Center along the Platte River this June.
