If you’re age 70½ or older, you can give to the Littleton Public Schools Foundation directly from your IRA through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) — one of the most tax-efficient ways to give.
Why It’s Smart:
- You can give up to $111,000 per year (2026 limit) from your IRA
- The gift does not count as taxable income
- If you’re 73+, it counts toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD)
- It may reduce future RMDs and overall tax exposure
Instead of taking a taxable distribution and then writing a check, a QCD allows you to give before taxes are applied.
Your QCD can support classroom innovation grants, student mental health resources, career development programs, crisis and family support initiatives, and much more.
As one LPS Foundation donor shared:
“I don’t need all of my RMD. A QCD lets me support local education in a meaningful way — and it’s simply smarter from a tax perspective.”
It’s So Easy to Make a QCD
- Contact your IRA custodian.
- Request a Qualified Charitable Distribution directly to the “Littleton Public Schools Foundation”.
- Ensure the check is made payable to the Foundation (not to you personally).
- Keep confirmation for your tax records.
- Alert Stef Carroll, Executive Director, at 303-347-3478 or scarroll@lps.k12.co.us
Please consult your financial advisor or tax professional to determine how a QCD fits into your overall plan.
