Funding Real-World Readiness for High School Students

A smiling teacher wearing a Kansas basketball jersey stands next to a student intern in a classroom filled with middle school students working at tables. A colorful screen is visible on the smartboard behind them.

What does real-world learning look like? This spring, EPIC Campus students found out firsthand through internships at businesses across the Denver Metro Area. Whether working with patients at Select Physical Therapy, helping plan lessons for Newton Middle School students, or supporting operations at Windish RV, students developed essential skills and explored careers that align with today’s workforce demands. They also built meaningful professional connections that will support them well into the future.

Now in its second year, the Work-Based Learning program, led by Beth Best, is thriving with 42 students placed in internships during the spring 2025 semester. Thanks to a Littleton Public Schools Foundation grant funded by the City of Centennial, students received compensation for interning with organizations that could not yet offer paid positions.

Some students even interned within the district, with positions in the finance, information technology, operations, and security departments. (Fingers crossed for a spring 2026 intern at the LPS Foundation! We're excited to add a student voice to our team, and if they can help us crack the social media code, even better.)

Thank you City of Centennial for your incredible partnership.
