A New Sound at Heritage High School

High school marching band performs on a football field at dusk, with brass musicians in red-and-black uniforms playing in formation while a color guard member in the foreground waves a large flag under stadium lights.

Thanks to a 2025 Educator Grant from the Littleton Public Schools Foundation, the Heritage High School band purchased a brand-new marching baritone, an important step toward strengthening the entire ensemble.

The baritone plays a critical role in a band’s sound, providing rich harmony and bridging the gap between low brass and higher melodies. When students have access to quality instruments, they can focus less on equipment limitations and more on musicianship, confidence, and performance excellence.

As the Heritage band director shared, district funding alone often isn’t enough to fully support a growing music program. This grant enabled the purchase of one new marching baritone, bringing the program closer to its goal of acquiring 12 total instruments. Each new instrument removes a barrier for students and helps elevate the overall quality of the band’s sound.

This is the impact of educator grants in action: Empowering teachers, supporting students, and ensuring music education continues to thrive in Littleton Public Schools, one note at a time.
